What's the Effect of Separation on an Infant?

I love my Son.

My partner wants to move 2,000 miles away with our newborn son (7 weeks old) for the next 15 months (at least) to live with her mother.

I can guarantee that I will be able to fly down and see him at least 4-5 times in this time as I am completing school and am quite broke right now.

I am curious as to the effects this could have on my child's mental well-being to not have his father in his life except sporadically for the first year and a half.

My stomach tells me it will be hell to me, but what about my son?
