Is Formula the Culprit?

My baby is 8 weeks old for the past 6 weeks the baby has been straining when passing gas a having a bowel movement. We changed her formula a few times, one was lactose free which did not make a difference, then we went back to her regular one which gave her the diarrhea again so now I have her on soy, it seems to help a bit but still strains a lot. Do you think soy is safe to have her on?

Can Enfamil Cause Ear Infections?

by Alissa
(Lassellsville, NY)

This could be coincidence, but I started her on Enfamil Premium when she was 3 months old because that's what WIC offers, and that's when she started these painful ear infections. Prior to Enfamil, she was on Similac Sensitive and had no problems. Antibiotics aren't even helping much anymore.

She's had 7 serious ear infections with a runny nose and congestion. And no, I don't see any teeth yet. I do not smoke around her, I go outside and always wash my hands. She's never been exposed to smoke of any kind. The PA at the ER said it was because of the smoke on my clothing, which I thought was ridiculous!

Please give me some advice...thank you!!

ALissa

Level vs. Heaped Formula Scoops

by Jeri Rizzo
(Palm Bay, FL)

My daughters 2 month old baby is very fussy and gassy. I told my daughter to follow mixing directions carefully on powered formula can (Good Start), but she says she is mixing it correctly. The instructions say level scoops added to 4 oz of water. I observed her putting in heaping scoops of powered formula in the 4 oz of water. I feel this could possibly be why the baby is so fussy and gassy.

She refuses to listen to me, she says I am picking on her. Could the strong formula mix be the reason for the fussy baby?

Mixing Powdered Formula

My 3 month old daughter was switched to Nutramigen because of an allergy to milk. I could only get this in a powder, my question is when you boil the kettle to mix this formula do you have to bring it to a complete boil every time or can you just boil it once and warm it on the other bottles?

What do you do when no formula seems to work??

by Kayla
(Ollie, Iowa US)

My son is 10wks and 3days old. He drank Similac Advance until he was a little over a month, then he began puking it up at every feeding. We switched him to the Sensitive for spit-up to see if that made a difference, but then he was really fussy.

We then tried the Sensitive for Fussiness and Gas, but the fussiness continued. When we took him to his 2 month appt our doctor recommended we try Soy for Fussiness and Gas. He has been on the Soy for 10 days and he's still very fussy and is now very gassy! His bowel movements are solid and he really stresses to get even the littlest bit out.

My sitter thinks it may just be acid reflux. Would that mean it's not the formula and he doesn't have to be on Soy? Can we switch him back to the Advance?

Also, I think he may be teething. Could that be part of his fussiness? I know he's only 2 months old, but he has been a very advanced baby!

He was able to lift his head and hold it the day he was born, he started rolling over when he was barely a month old, and he's on the verge of crawling! My doctor said I gave birth to a 2 month old, ha ha! But he is drooling like crazy and has a new obsession with chewing on things!!
Lastly, is 2 months old too soon to start him on rice? Or even 2% milk?
