My 3.3 month old baby diagonised with acute enterocolitis

by Anand Naik
(Mumbai, MH, India)

My 3.3 month old baby started having rashes on his body 2 weeks back, doctor diagnosed it as an infection and suggested one week course of Taxim-O syrup. In next week infant started passing green stool with mucous and doctor diagnosed it as acute enterocolitis.

He is currently on Ofloxacin suspension (3 ml *2 times). He told us to keep a watch on baby's anterior fonatnelle, and we are scared. He is a normal delivery with 3.6kg weight at birth and was doing absolutely fine till 3 months of age. Currently, despite all this problems, he is chirpy, active and progressing per his infant milestones. May be its a first child syndrome to us, but would like to know--
1. If the medication for enterocolitis is correct and what connection it may have with anterior fontanelle.
2. If this is something alarming for us to improve on the care we are taking for the infant.

Thanks a ton in advance.

Anand

My Best Advice? Get Another Opinion
by: Heather ;-)

Anand,

It is so hard when our little ones are sick. Unfortunately, I cannot give you medical advice on this. If you are not sure, I would encourage you to seek a second opinion.

As much as I love to share ideas and tips on general problems and concerns, your question is too specific for me to comment with any kind of useful help.

Again, I would urge to to get a second opinion with another doctor. They've got YEARS of experience and training to offer you.

with much care,
Heather

Thanks to Heather
by: Anand Naik

Hi Heather,

I guess you got yourself another huge fan in me. Thanks a lot for the advice, we did went to another experienced doc (some 55-60yr of age), incdentally he took care of my wife when she was an infant. My Baby (nicknamed Gustav) now seems to be doing good. His skin rashes have faded (not gone yet), and last 2 night he has slept really well.

I once again thank you for the kind and loving guidance.

Regards,
Anand
