Mixing Powdered Formula

My 3 month old daughter was switched to Nutramigen because of an allergy to milk. I could only get this in a powder, my question is when you boil the kettle to mix this formula do you have to bring it to a complete boil every time or can you just boil it once and warm it on the other bottles?

Boiling Water
by: Heather ;-)

Dear Friend,

I don't have the formula instructions in front of me, so let me first say do whatever they say (regardless of what I type!).

However, here's my best guess. You're boiling the water to kill any "undesirables" floating around in there. Therefore, you only need to boil it once.

Boil the water, then place it in a large gallon container in the fridge to cool down. Then, when you need a bottle the water is cool, clean and ready to use.

When you've mixed the bottle, heat some water on low in a small saucepan, placing your babies bottle inside (like a double boiler). This will warm the bottle up. (Microwaving bottles can create uneven hot-spots that can burn baby's mouth.)

Testing it on the inside of your wrist will give you a good indication if the milk inside is lukewarm and ready for eating.

Another option is to hold the prepared bottle over running warm tap water. This also will warm up the milk inside evenly.

I hope this helps, write back if it didn't answer your question.

with care,
Heather

I did read the instructions. It did not tell me what I wanted to know.
