Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as a Great Learning Tool.

What do you really like (or dislike) about this book?

I love this book, and so do my children. Not only is it helpful with learning the alphabet, but it is fun too. Singing, talking about rhyming words, alphabet letters, and their sounds are all great ways to get your child to interact with the book. While this book is great for babies and young children it will last for years as your child grows and enters new grades. Parents can use this book as a spring board for many arts and crafts, writing ideas, or even a tool for children to learn to read. A first grader can get just as much enjoyment from this book as a 3 year old, or a 5th grader.

Share a memory you have of this book (either from your childhood, or with your baby) that makes it special to you.

I remember sitting down and reading this book with my elementary school teachers. They would always sing the words and let us really get into the story and have fun with it. We got to make chcicka chicka boom boom posters. Where we put the letters of our names down the side of a paper like an acrostic poem and then got to put a word that describes us by each letter. Then we decorated them and hung them under a great big chicka chicka boom boom tree. I loved being able to tell others about chicka chicka boom boom and see their work under the tree.

What do you think of the illustrations?

The illustrations in the book are great. They use so many colors and are not the “typical” picture book pages. Kids like to see new and different things why not introduce them to these things by way of a book. The pages and colors not only get the children interested in the book, but it keeps their attentions when paired up with interactive words and ideas. Getting a young child interested in reading now is a critical thing for getting them interested in reading and books when they get bigger. The illustrations do a great job of grabbing attention and interest as well as showing that not every picture in every book has to follow a cookie cutter image.

What is your baby's favorite part?

I think their favorite part is every time you get to read the words “ Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” it is almost like those words trigger an excitement in their brains. They look forward to being able to read those words with me. It is another great way to get them excited to read. They may not be able to read the words yet, but they memorize them and know when they are coming. It is a great starting point in forming their own curiosity about reading. And it helps that we either sing those words or read them in fun new voices. It helps them learn about reading with expression at an early age. I love that fact that this book is such a great learning tool for young children.

If you had only 5 books on your baby's book shelf, would this be one of them? What would be the other 4?

This book would definitely be in the top five. The other four would be :
