Baby Pooping Frequency

My daughter is 4 weeks old and was pooping 5 to 8 times a day. But within the past week she has been pooping only once and she seems to be extremely uncomfortable and screaming and crying the entire day.

Is there anything I can do to help her with this?

Articles about Constipation
by: Heather ;-)

Dear friend,

All my children have had "bowel" problems in the past.

I've written a few articles in regard to constipation. I've hyperlinked them below.

Identifying Infant Constipation

Baby Constipation Cures

I hope these can be helpful to you. As always, feel free to post back here with any further questions you felt the articles didn't answer. (I can always add that information to the article later!)

much care,
Heather

Constipation issues
by: Anonymous

my son at 8 weeks was having issues and the doc said I could mix 1 ounce white grape juice with one ounce water and give it to him... It helped right away!

Sudden bowel movement change
by: Anonymous

My baby also seems to be suffering a similar problem. She's 5 weeks old and was pooing after each feed until about 3 1/2 weeks. Since then she has had only 2 poos. Both very watery (no curd or seeds) and she appears to be in great discomfort.

Heading to Children's!
by: Heather ;-)

Ironically, my 6 week old has decided to join the camp! She was having regular bowel movements for the first three weeks, and then stopped completely. We've had to give her suppositories (on our doctor's advice, ask your doctor about this), and her bowels are watery.

So...we are headed to Children's Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee tomorrow morning to get her seen by a pediatric gastrointologist.

I will re-post what she says tomorrow. Hopefully it will be helpful to all of us!

Biopsies and Stuff
by: Heather ;-)

Well, Bella had a biopsy on her little rectum (poor baby!). Fortunately, it came back okay. She does have all the nerves she needs, and doesn't need surgery.

This left the doctor thinking that she probably has dyschezia. (dye-cheese-e-a) Not fun for us, but at least we know she'll outgrow it eventually! (sigh)

intermediate small poops
by: Anonymous

My daughter is 6 weeks old and she poops regularly 3 to 4 times and things are normal so far. The problem I noticed is that she has so many frequent small poops in between her regular poops.

These intermediate poops are so small (like a drop or two) but this continuous all through out the day.

Doctor says that is normal but I wanted to post if anyone has seen this behavior.

Appreciate any response to this question
