Top Baby Books: Olivia
Author:
Why It's Loved:
There's something about Olivia that makes me smile. If you have a daughter, Olivia is a great opportunity to see how your little girl
will be thinking, playing, and dreaming in the years to come.
As you read to your baby,
you'll be introducing her to a few famous paintings as you read (always a bonus), and will chuckle out loud at Olivia's attempt to "recreate" them
at home (and the subsequent punishment!).
The illustrations are simple, but I think that adds to their charm. The addition of splashes of color (red, of course!) to the standard black-and-white
pen drawings keep your eyes moving around the page, exploring each drawing. (And don't forget, the first three colors a baby sees are black, white,
and red!)
An Excerpt:
This is Olivia.
She is good at lots of things.
She's especially good at wearing people out.
She even wears herself out.
If I Have to Nit-Pick...
I'll admit, I didn't like Olivia right away. The first few read-throughs seem somewhat disjointed and choppy. However, once you've read
through it a few times, you'll hit your stride and really tap into the charm that Olivia offers.
