Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Author:

Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault

Heather's Review:

My sister gave me this book when Lauren was 3 weeks old. It's been a favorite ever since. The poetry and rhythm in this book is unbeatable. You practically sing your entire way through it.

The pictures are perfect, and the silliness of all the letters falling down the tree provides good humor. (The gentle armpit pokes and tickles on "Boom Boom!" are also a hit.) I love how it introduces each letter as a character. This book helped my children learn their ABCs faster than the regular 'ole "ABC" song!

An Excerpt:

A told B and B told C
"I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree!" "Whee!" said D to E, F, G
"I'll beat you to the top of the coconut tree!"

If You Have to Nit-Pick...

Okay, Okay, I know I said in another article that you should try to stick with board books for your baby. However, the board book version of this book ( Chicka Chicka ABC ) is, in my opinion, incomplete and not worth it. In an attempt to cut the story short, so it can fit on a board book, they've lost a lot of the rhythm and humor found in the original version (Chicka Chicka Boom Boom).

So in this case, go with the original hardback version listed here. You'll be sooo glad you did.
