The Natural

I'm so thrilled to introduce you to my friend The Green Guru. She is one of my dearest friends and I've relied on her good counsel more than once. Her little sprouts have been wonderful playmates for my own.

When the subject of natural and organic living and mothering came up, she was the first person that popped in my mind.

One of the things I most love and admire about her is her honesty.

She isn't concerned about living natural or organic because of some external reason. She lives naturally because that's the way she is. She and her husband have decided that's the way they want to live, so that's the way they live. Simple. Honest. Guilt-free.

Her take on organic mothering is so refreshingly...organic. I'm confident you will find her just as knowledgeable and fun as I do.

P.S. Why the mystery? (Assuming you've figured out The Green Guru isn't really her name...) In time she will be moving overseas into a somewhat volatile area. The Green Guru nickname allows her to write safely from all over the world, benefiting all of us!

How Did You Get Into Organic and Natural Mothering?

I have always been a right brainer- creative, subjective, and intuitive. I tell you this in light of green mothering because these aptitudes led me to care for my kids in a green sort of way.

I didn't want to be in the hospital, so I had a homebirth.

I didn't look at much breastfeeding analysis, I just started nursing.

I didn't research baby wearing, I just strapped them on me wherever I went.

It's a lifestyle marked by lots of little decisions to keep things as natural as I can.

All this started before I had kids. I was on the pill and got a cyst in my breast. After having that removed I vowed I would never be on that nasty pill again. It was a real wake up call as to what synthetic stuff does to your body.

From there we got pregnant and we did not want synthetic stuff in the baby either, so, among other reasons we had a homebirth. We didn't vaccinate, or circumcise, and kept it all pretty non-invasive. I nursed freely, and with vigor.

I was grateful to God that I could nurse, as at the time I didn't even know if the breast the cyst was removed from would be able to produce milk. After that, other decisions continued to be based on what we thought was best for the baby, trying to keep things as natural as possible.

I am really thrilled to share our journey with you. It has been fun to advise moms on the things we do, which 100 years ago would probably not raise an eyebrow! Let's get back to our roots and care for the next generation.

With much love for my kids and yours,
